Conti Confident Of Roma Success

Roma legend and 1982 World Cup hero Bruno Conti looks ahead at the upcoming campaign by stressing that they will have the same attitude that enabled them to fight Inter all the way last term: "Our weapons will be, as always, hard work, humility and professionalism," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We are doing a good job on the transfer market. We brought in John Arne Riise and Simone Loria, purchased full rights to Mirko Vucinic and have managed to renew Daniele De Rossi and Alexander Doni's contracts. Now there is the Aquilani situation to sort out, but I am optimistic. We spoke to his father before the European Championships and we agreed to meet during the pre-season."

The former Azzurri player also reiterated that Vincenzo Montella will turn up at Trigoria on Sunday, because there are no negotiations taking place at the moment.

The Olympic stadium will host the next Champions League final and Conti hopes that the current crop of Giallorossi players will be able to lift the prized trophy that evaded him in 1984 at the hands of Liverpool: "After losing that final on home turf, it would be just perfect to win it here. And I could finally get my hands on that all-important cup that was the only silverware missing in my career," he concluded.

Baptista Wants Roma Move - Agent

The Giallorossi are well known to be in the market for a top class forward, and have been linked heavily in recent weeks to Baptista, who is almost certain to leave Real Madrid after spending large chunks of last season on the bench.

Earlier this week, Roma were tipped by the Spanish press to make a €15m bid for ‘The Beast’, and the player’s agent has admitted that a move is possible.

“At the moment he doesn’t want to talk about things, but I can assure you that he really likes Roma and it would be a very pleasing destination,” Herminio Menedez stated.

“They are an important club and they have played at the highest level in the Champions League over the last few years.

“Furthermore it would be a pleasure for Baptista to play alongside so many fellow Brazilians and top-class players like Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.”

The Italian press claims that Roma’s preferred signing is Fiorentina’s Adrian Mutu, but with a move for the Romanian unlikely, it now seems they will go all out for the 26-year-old Baptista.

The forward has won 41 caps for the Brazil national team, scoring 10 goals.
