Mancini makes Inter move

Inter have been chasing the signature of Mancini since the arrival of Mourinho earlier this summer.

Mancini has inked a four-year deal with Inter after a fee in the region of €12.5million (£10million) was agreed with Roma.

The Brazilian was unveiled as their first summer signing on Tuesday afternoon.

Mancini told a news conference: "I thank Roma for everything they have done for me, for how they have treated me and for the way in which they have behaved in the negotiations with Inter."

Meanwhile, young midfielder Francesco Bolzoni has signed a new deal with the Nerazzurri

The 19-year-old has extended his contract until 2012 with the Italian champions after progressing through the youth system at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Brighi Future In Rome Uncertain

Talking to Teleradiostereo, Brighi’s agent, Vanni Puzzolo, described his player’s current contractual situation with Roma: “We met with Roma on our request, hoping to easily renew the contract and the club showed us that it was counting on Matteo for the future.”

Puzzolo explained that a tentative four-year agreement had been reached between the two parties but the negotiations were far from smooth: “We had been working on a four-year contract extension set to end in 2012. But at one point we saw that the club were no longer convinced about their feelings, so we enquired and received clarification.”

As to the cause of the club’s hesitancy, Puzzolo said, “I suppose journalists are to blame. The papers published rumours about an interest from Celtic and speculation about delays in the negotiations. From there, I took control of the situation and went directly to the club. We received the trust of the management and the coaching staff and we are happy to continue here.”

The 27-year-old’s agent did, however, acknowledge the possibility that his player may still leave the Eternal City before the new season kicks off: “The transfer window will close on September 1 and until then we have agreed with the club to consider all the possibilities that may emerge up until that point.”

Official: Inter Sign Mancini

Mancini’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico was due to run out in 2009, and Roma were always certain to sell him this summer in order to avoid the risk of losing him on a Bosman next year.

Inter and Roma have been involved in negotiations over the 28-year-old for quite some time now, and indeed last week it was all but confirmed that the player would be arriving at San Siro.

The transfer has finally been confirmed, with Inter agreeing to pay Roma a fee in the region of €12.5m.

Mancini, who becomes Jose Mourinho’s first senior signing since taking charge as coach, has penned a four-year contract until 2012, believed to be worth around €2.5m a year.

The Brazilian has been signed specifically to fit into Mourinho’s preferred 4-4-2 formation, and will be officially unveiled today.

Mancini made 154 appearances and scored 40 goals for Roma between 2003 and 2008 after joining from Atletico Mineiro.

In other news Inter have tied young midfielder Francesco Bolzoni to a new four year deal at the club. The 19-year-old is highly rated, and even made a handful of appearances for the first team last season.

Sign Baptista Or Bendtner, Aldair Tells Roma

The Giallorossi are well known to be in the market for a top class forward, and have been linked to a host of frontmen in recent weeks.

One of these is Real Madrid’s Julio Baptista, who is almost certain to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in search of first team football.

Yesterday, Roma were tipped by the Spanish press to make a €15m bid for ‘The Beast’, and it is a move that Aldair is sponsoring.

"Julio Baptista is a very interesting player and could do well in the capital,” he told Centro Suono Sport.

The 1994 World Cup winner also praised young Arsenal starlet Nicklas Bendtner, who earlier this month was also heavily linked with the Eternal City-outfit.

“Another player that I like a lot is Bendtner, the centre forward of Arsenal, although he is still very young," the 43-year-old stated.

Aldair played for Roma from 1990 to 2003 and is widely regarded as one of the club’s best ever defenders. In 13 superb seasons at the club he made 415 appearances, winning the Scudetto in 2001 under Fabio Capello.

After he left the Giallorossi at the age of 37, the club retired his No.6 shirt in his honour.

Aquilani: I’m Staying At Roma

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Giallorossi, as talks to renew his current contract, which runs out in 2010, have not been going well.

The classy midfielder wants around €2.5m in wages per year, but until now Roma are believed to have only offered €1.5m. This has led to interest from a host of top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Arsenal, and in particular Inter and Juventus, who have launched a number of transfer bids this summer, and have promised the player a salary of €3m.

While the chance of moving to Juve has now disappeared following the purchase of Christian Poulsen, Inter are still on the lookout for a centre midfielder.

However, Il Romanista reports that a Roma fan named Nunzio Veloce met Aquilani while the player was holidaying in Capri.

"I have a nightclub, right on the square, and I saw Alberto down to his taxi,” Veloce explained.

“The taxi driver I know, is an Inter fan, and asked him if he was to play for them, and soon after if he was going to Juventus - and he said no.

"So I went to ask him if it was true he'd stay with Roma, and he confirmed it."

Latest whispers from the peninsula suggest that Aquilani will indeed finally pen a fresh deal at Roma within the next few weeks.

The 18-year-old's agent, Domenico Scopelliti spoke about his client's future and in particular to the transfer rumours linking him to a move to Lecce.

"I have not yet spoken to any one of the two parts," revealed the player's agent to Romannews.eu, "Therefore there are no particular updates.

"I'm sure that by mid-week, or at most by Friday, we will know something more concrete."

He also spoke about Okaka's adventure with the Italian under 19 national team, where in five appearances he already scored two goals.

"He's proud to wear the Azzurri's shirt, both because it represents his national team and also because he has created a very good rapport of respect and friendship with the national coach," concluded Scopelliti.
