Buy The Beast - Roma Legend

The Giallorossi, who are searching for a top class centre forward, have been consistently linked with making a move for Baptista over recent weeks.

Earlier this week the club were tipped to make a €15m bid for ‘The Beast’, while only yesterday the player’s agent admitted that a transfer was a possibility.

One person who is in favour of Baptista signing for Roma is Toninho Cerezo, who is still a much loved figure in the red half of the Eternal City following his exploits for the club in the 1980s.

"If Roma get Baptista, they will be making a great buy,” said the Richard Pryor-look-alike.

“He is physically powerful, has a good shot, and is strong in the air.

"Luciano Spalletti is a great coach but Baptista is a player with great quality and can do well at Roma, a team that already has great players."

Cerezo was part of Roma’s finest ever squad during the early 1980s, playing with greats such as Falcao, Bruno Conti, Agostino Di Bartolomei and Roberto Pruzzo.

The Brazilian played for Roma between 1983 and 1986, before he moved on to Sampdoria where he had another six successful years, winning the Scudetto in 1991.

He was twice a losing finalist in the final of the European Cup, one with each of his teams, and was also part of the famed Brazil 1982 World Cup team.
