Mutu’s future with the Viola has been uncertain all summer, and he has been constantly linked with a move to Roma.
Yesterday evening, Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino announced that an official bid from the Giallorossi had finally been lodged for the Romanian, an offer believed to be in the region of €20m.
Corvino went on to explain that the Tuscans would meet with Roma and consider the offer if Mutu, a player who is approaching 30, was desperate to make the move.
The Italian press are adamant that this signalled Fiorentina’s intention to cash in on Mutu, and with a reported contract offer worth €3.2m a year on the table, it now seems almost certain that a transfer will be completed.
The purchase of Mutu would be something of a coup for the Giallorossi, especially as they have made no big name signings this summer.
The 29-year-old first arrived in Italian football back in 2000 with Inter, and he has also enjoyed spells, either on loan or permanently, with Verona, Parma and Juventus, as well as a miserable two year stay in England with Chelsea.
Mutu will be a direct replacement for Amantino Mancini, who left Roma a couple of weeks ago to join rivals Inter.
